The Prince of Wales has splashed out on a 124mph £60,000 motor that will become a first in the Royal Family.

He is ditching his current Jaguar – which runs on conventional fuel – for a customised, all-electric Jaguar I-Pace.

A charging point has been installed at his and Camilla Parker Bowles’s Clarence House, the couple’s official London home.

The vehicle, which is the Royal Family’s first all-electric car, will ferry Charles around the capital for official duties.

The environmentalist could also travel to his Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire on a single charge.

Charles is said to be leasing the £60,000 motor with his own money, according to The Times, and has had it custom made.

It is reported he ordered his new drive, which can accelerate from 0-60mph in under five seconds, in Loire Blue – a colour not available on the I-Pace.

Jaguar Land Rover, which makes the car in Austria, say the I-Pace’s new batteries pack 90kWh which offer a range of 292 miles.

But although the car can take a rapid 60 miles’ charge in 15 minutes, the Prince would have to stop at a motorway service station if he wanted to visit Dumfries in Scotland.
