Many motoring fans around the world are familiar with English-born US motor racing broadcaster David Hobbs.
He raced Le Mans countless times, Daytona, F1, works Porsches etc., etc – but he is a former Daimler/Jaguar Student Apprentice from Coventry!
His mother and father were born in Adelaide, South Australia his father being the inventor of many things including a very early automatic gearbox. That took them to the UK – and the rest of this extraordinary tale is revealed in our coming edition.
David began by racing his parents Morris Oxford then an XK140 fitted with a Hobbs transmission – which he rolled.
It is a fascinating story.
