NEWEST EDITION IS NOW OUT – BOB JANE, XJ220/XJR15, WORKS RACING MK1S …

We have been a little delayed with edition #195 because a sensational story landed late about a mysterious XJ220 and an XJR-15 sharing one garage in Melbourne!

But we are out now, and on digital at Magzter immediately.

You will read about Bob Jane’s huge life – and you will learn things which have never been told before and shaped his future.  That includes his massively controversial race in the UK driving a Coombs Mk2.

We test drive the gorgeous looking XF Sportbrake for the first time.

We compare the XK150 with the XK8 if you happen to be considering a Jaguar sports classic.

Then then is the revelation that only seven ‘works built’ Mk1 racers were ever built – and does not include Mike Hawthorn’s racer, and the ex-David McKay ‘Grey Pussy’.  But we trace the seven cars, two of which came new to Australia and also the US.

… and that is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Don’t forget to consider a subscription for a Christmas present also.

NEXT F-TYPE SPORTS WILL BE ALL-ELECTRIC!

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) today announced that in 2021 the sale will be all-electric version of the sports car Jaguar F-Type new generation.

Now in the line Jaguar already has one electric car – the I-Pace. It is equipped with two motors with a total power of 197 horsepower and battery with a capacity of 90 kilowatts. Of course, for a sports car it’s not very impressive results, but we believe that at the time of its appearance on the market, gets more powerful electric motors and higher capacity battery. Otherwise, you will not be able to compete with other electric sports car.

Sorry, JLR, has not yet said whether the new Jaguar F-Type only with electric propulsion, or buyers continue to offer versions with gasoline engines. It seems that the bosses of this company, yet this issue has not made a final decision.

Jaguar Land Rover now, by the way, together with BMW, is developing a new generation of petrol engine V8. This project, called Project Jennifer. At the top the new version of the 4.4 l twin-turbo engine will have a capacity of 640 HP With this engine the F-Type would become more powerful than even the Porsche 911.Sports car Jaguar F-Type will be the electric car

In any case, regardless of the type of power plant F-Type new generation to build on the new aluminum platform. Due to this the car will be easier than it is now.

Indian group Tata, which owns Jaguar Land Rover, disagree with its sales of diesel and petrol models. So gradually the British will go for cars with electric propulsion.

WE DRIVE I-PACE NEXT WEEK – AS IT WINS TOPGEAR MAGAZINE CAR OF THE YEAR!

The Jaguar I-PACE is available to order now – and we drive it for the first time next week for our final edition of the year.

Nothing else on the road looks or drives like the Jaguar I-PACE. It is designed and engineered to take full advantage of its smart electric powertrain and maximise the potential this packaging brings. With two Jaguar-designed electric motors placed at each axle, producing a combined output of 400PS and 696Nm, I-PACE delivers all-wheel-drive sports car performance with 0-60mph taking just 4.5 seconds.

The I-PACE is able to achieve a 0-80 percent battery charge in 85-minutes using DC charging (50kW), while home charging with an approved Jaguar AC wall box (7kW) will achieve the same state of charge in just over ten hours – ideal for the overnight charging used by the majority of buyers.

Rawdon Glover, Jaguar Land Rover UK MD, said: “As Jaguar’s first ever electric vehicle, the I-PACE was a completely blank canvas. Our engineers were tasked with creating an electric vehicle without compromise; it would be quick, stylish, luxurious, exhilarating to drive, fast to charge, spacious and easy to use every day. The result has even surpassed our ambitions, and I’m pleased to see I-PACE pick up another award from one of the most respected media outlets in the world.”

I-PACE’s innovations and cutting-edge engineering have secured it 17 major awards wins since its introduction, including German Car of the Year, Scottish Car of the Year, Sunday Times Car of the Year, Auto Express New Car of the Year and Autocar’s Game Changer title.

The I-PACE calculates range using the most accurate system Jaguar has ever produced, taking into account route topography, climate conditions and driver inputs.
The I-PACE is Jaguar’s first vehicle to include the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, capable of over-the-air software updates, and uses artificial intelligence to adapt to a driver’s personal preferences, ensuring driving and infotainment settings are matched to each individual using the car.

WELLSBOURNE TO BECOME WORLD FAMOUS AND EMBRACED BY JAGUAR LAND ROVER

Not many of our readers will know it, but the once tiny village of Wellesbourne, just outside Stratford-On-Avon, with its WW2 former airbase and landing strip, was where Jaguar launched the all-new Mk1 to the world’s press, was the home village of Jaguar’s famous Director of Engineering, Bill Heynes (his home is with the XK120) and also the home village of the late-Roger and and his lovely wife Penny Woodley.  Roger was a former Jaguar Student Apprentice and they had one of the world’s finest Jaguar collections.  Penny still lives there.

Now, Wellesbourne is set to become Europe’s capital for the development of driverless electric cars with the construction of a pioneering multi-million pound research centre.

The ‘Smart City Mobility Centre’ planned at Warwick University’s Wellesbourne Campus will be a massive boost to the district and ensure South Warwickshire is at the cutting edge of a technology, long tipped to revolutionise the car industry.

The one-of-a-kind centre was announced by the University of Warwick and Jaguar Land Rover last week.

The centre at Wellesbourne will be concerned with developing the vehicle prototypes and the technology involved, with actual testing to take place at the University’s main campus.

As the centre develops, it is expected to play a significant role in transforming the future of UK transport with the aim of making congestion, emissions and road traffic accidents a thing of the past.

Engineers from Jaguar Land Rover and the Warwick Manufacturing Group (a department at the University of Warwick) will work together at the site, drawing on expertise in battery technology from the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre, which will also be located in Coventry and Warwickshire.

WMG Chairman Professor Lord Bhattacharyya said: “This is the first time in any country that such a comprehensive system is being designed and tested. This will help integrate plans for transport systems for the future that have the potential to bring significant economic benefits to transform and improve the lives of a great many people who could benefit from even safer, less congested, and more environmentally sustainable transport.”

Professor Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer of Jaguar Land Rover, added: “Jaguar Land Rover welcomes the UK’s first Smart City Mobility centre in the West Midlands.

“The centre, based at the University of Warwick’s Wellesbourne campus, will create state-of-the-art electric vehicle platforms and integrated driverless capability to support the smart cities of the future.

THE SIDE OF BOB JANE YOU DIDN’T KNOW – #195 EDITION NEXT WEEK

If there is one thing I hate it is rehashing all the stories we have all heard or seen before.

The facts and the facts which can’t be avoided, but we get inside the subjects of our features – and that includes the famous and infamous Bob Jane who died recently after a long and turbulent life.

However, Jaguar was the base of his business success, and we have gone deeper into his personal life than anyone else.

I promise we outline what formed his tough character, and expose the softer side most didn’t know.

We spent three and half days alone with Bob promoting our magazine while he signed and sold posters of his race cars.  We don’t care about scandal or rumours, and leave that to others.

Without boasting – I know this 10 page feature is definitive of the ‘meanest bastard in Brunswick’ which is what he was called.  Yet he took our future Road Test Editor under his wing (above), gave him fatherly advice and could not have been nicer.

We bring you Bob Jane the human being – not the mythical man.
