Loyal readers now know all about Aussie engineer Ron Gaudion, the only person to prepare and crew the three Le Mans winning D-Types, and a very popular star of the Goodwood Revival in 2017 – thanks to the foresight and efforts of D-Type owner Clive Beecham.
Today Ron, and his Scottish-born wife May, who met and married while Ron worked for Ecurie Ecosse in 1956/57 and part of 58, drove from their home on the Queensland Gold Coast to enjoy lunch with long time friend of this magazine and Jaguar owner/devotee, Max Joffe, and his lovely wife Lorraine.
Ron in the tartan cap prepares the ex-works Ecurie Ecosse D-Type in 1957.
Max and Lorraine flew from Melbourne to have Ron sign the underside of the passenger compartment lid of his replica D-Type.
It was a special occasion, and a huge amount of fun and you can read about it further in our next edition.
