Jaguar and Land Rover are doing a brilliant job of allowing potential buyers to experience their newest models on the road and tracks – from the passenger seat and behind the wheel.
For the next four days Jaguar Land Rover Australia has taken over the Frank Gardner-built Norwell Driving Centre south of Brisbane, and filling it with over thirty cars and around 60 hand-selected staff.
Frank’s idea was to provide a world best driving facility, and under the Morris family it retains that status. Frank carved out his illustrious international racing and engineering career starting with a Jaguar XK120, C-Type and D-Type before going to Europe. Jaguar remained his favourite marque up until his passing.
Our visit to the Experience was another highlight event in a big year, and we got to drive a V8 F-Type Coupe and supercharged XE 3.0 litre at serious speeds around the Herman Tilke (of F1 track design) planned facility. We also got to drive the brilliant new Land Rover Velar through some serious off-road pool-like tracks. The Velar shares the same platform as Jaguar’s F-Pace so makes an interesting comparison.
We will feature the event in our coming edition – and you will probably be surprised at which car impressed us most in terms of performance driving and serious cornering. … but then you might not be surprised either!
