JAGUAR LAUNCHES LIMITED ‘ LOVE EDITION’ XEL IN CHINA – China Daily

Chinese car brands love to launch weird celebrity-endorsed special editions of their cheaper cars. It is however very rare for a foreign premium-car maker to do such a thing. But Jaguar did! And how!

Jaguar is launching an XEL Love Edition, complete with an androgyn celebrity.

The XEL Love Edition celebrates the launch of the Jaguar XEL (usually referred to as the XE L), the long-wheelbase version of the Jaguar XE sedan, which is made in China by the Chery-JLR joint venture. The slogan for the Jaguar XEL Love Edition is: Love Is XEL.

So who is this little cherry? The endorsing celebrity is called William Chan. William is a singer and actor from the former British colony Hong Kong, a nice match for the formerly British brand Jaguar. William Chan was born in 1985 and started his career with a boy band called Sun Boy’z. Enough said.

Jaguar has a timer on its website showing the days we still have to wait for the XEL Love Edition. Would you wish time would go faster? Well, maybe not, because you would have to hurry even more; as the XEL Love Edition isn’t just some edition, oh no, it is a…. limited edition!

Yes. They will only make 100 of them.

PROJECT 8 – FAST FOUR DOOR AROUND NURBURGRING – AND COMING TO LA AUTO SHOW

Jaguar’s SVO-developed XE SV Project 8 is now the world’s fastest four-door car, following a production-intent prototype’s record lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The incredible time of 7min 21.23sec is nearly 11 seconds quicker than the previous fastest sedan around the legendary 20.8km German circuit and puts the 441kW Project 8 ahead of some of the world’s fastest two-door coupés and supercars.

Mark Stanton, SVO Director, said: “The SVO design and engineering team’s mission was to create the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in history – not only the fastest, but also the most agile. As a result, only the roof and front door skins of Project 8’s body are carried-over unaltered from XE and 75 per cent of its mechanical hardware is new. This astonishing Nürburgring Nordschleife record validates the success of such extensive changes.”

John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, added: “SVO exists to push the boundaries of performance, luxury and all-terrain capability. The hand-assembled XE SV Project 8 takes that principle to the limit, extracting supercar-beating performance from Jaguar’s most compact four-door sedan. The Nürburgring Nordschleife record underlines our commitment to deliver the most extreme Jaguar ever to Project 8 clients, who will soon experience this sensational sedan for themselves.”

Now the world’s fastest four-door car has sped from the record books to the Jaguar stand at the LA Auto Show.

It will one segment of Jaguar Land Rover’s huge displays at the show which begins of Friday.

It’s all in edition #190:

BOBBY RAHAL LEADS JAGUAR’S I-PACE eTROPHY TEAMS

Jaguar Racing announced the first Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race team for its new global electric racing series. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, led by Team Principal Bobby Rahal – three-time IndyCar Champion and Indianapolis 500 winner – will join the grid in the world’s first production-based electric vehicle race series, starting in December 2018.

The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY is a support series to the FIA Formula E Championship and the first to be based off of a street-legal production battery electric vehicle. Races will take place the same weekend, and on the same city street circuits, throughout the 2018-19 season. The series, which will exclusively feature 20 Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race cars, offers teams the chance to showcase driving talent and electric performance, while competing on the world stage in zero-emissions motorsport.

James Barclay, Jaguar Racing Team Director, said: “Since the global announcement of eTROPHY the reaction has been very positive and we are in discussions with many teams and drivers about entering the series next year. As part of our Race to Innovate strategy, we are obviously delighted to be able to announce our first Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY team with racing legend Bobby Rahal and we look forward to working together with all our teams to make it a big success. The series is in a strong place and we look forward to announcing more news over the next few months.”

Bobby Rahal, Team Principal of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, said: “Innovation is integral to motorsports and electric car racing is an important part of the future so this opportunity came at the perfect time for RLL. We are thrilled to be competing in the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series next year working alongside an electric innovator like Jaguar.”

Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) in Warwickshire, UK, are building the race cars and offering ‘Arrive and Drive’ packages for up to 20 drivers at each race. The racecars are based on the Jaguar brand’s first battery electric road car, the Jaguar I-PACE, which will be released for sale in 2018.

The Rahal Letterman Lanigan team announcement comes ahead of the start of the FIA Formula E championship and season opening race in Hong Kong this weekend, where Panasonic Jaguar Racing will be on the grid with drivers Nelson Piquet Jr and Mitch Evans for the 2017-18 season.
